Seth and Greyson Johnson are proof that big things can come from small towns—and sometimes, from the same college. The brothers and co-founders of Lochwood Studios, a Hartsville-based photo and video company, started at Coker University, where creativity and opportunity met them right where they were.
Greyson and Seth’s connection to Coker started way before they were students. They grew up nearby, knew professors in the neighborhood, and spent summers attending art programs on campus. They were regulars before they ever applied. Once they did, things took off. Greyson received a full-ride scholarship and threw himself into everything from student clubs to business competitions. He won Coker’s Business Fellow Scholarship and took first place in the Pee Dee Idea Challenge, competing against over 70 startups in the Pee Dee region. His work even earned him the InnoVision Young Innovator Award.
Seth’s path was a little different, but no less creative. He came to Coker as a commuter student passionate about film and storytelling. He was able to double major in Communications and Fine Art. Eventually, he landed a job on campus, first as an Interactive Media Developer and later as a Video Production Specialist. He helped tell Coker’s story—literally—by producing everything from documentaries and promo videos to the university’s “It’s Your Story” tagline. Outside of Coker, his video work took him to bigger stages, including a Peabody Award-winning documentary series and projects for environmental nonprofits.
In 2022, the brothers teamed up to launch Lochwood Studios, a creative agency that focuses on storytelling through high-quality photography and videography. Since then, they’ve worked with more than 100 clients, including big names like Carolina Pines, the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics, Sonoco, and of course, Coker University. Whether it’s brand campaigns, mini-docs, or full-scale marketing videos, their work is all about helping people tell their stories in a way that feels real.
Looking back, both Seth and Greyson credit Coker with helping them get to this point. The University gave them room to explore, to experiment, and to build something meaningful. It’s where they found their voices—and each other as creative partners. Now, through Lochwood Studios, they’re using what they learned to amplify voices all across the region, one story at a time.
