When Limestone University announced its closure at the end of the 2024–25 academic year, students were faced with tough decisions about where to continue their education. For student-athletes, the news was especially hard, as it meant leaving behind teams, coaches, and traditions they had helped build.

Peter Adams, a baseball player from Augusta, Georgia, was one of those students. His freshman year at Limestone was challenging, with the team finishing just 4–41. Over the next few years, he and his teammates worked hard to rebuild the program, and by his senior season, they finished above .509. The closure came as an emotional blow, cutting short a journey that had shown so much progress.

Peter originally planned to stay at Limestone for graduate school, but the closure pushed him to explore new options. That search led him to Coker University, where the coaches reached out to him and made him feel welcome. Their persistence and encouragement helped him see Coker as the right next step, both academically and athletically.

Now pursuing his MBA, Peter says the transition has been made easier by the way Coker emphasizes connection and community. He credits Head Baseball Coach Fico Kondla with creating a team culture that feels supportive and competitive in equal measure. Though he has not had the chance to play with his new teammates yet, he has already connected with them through group messages and is looking forward to building those relationships on and off the field.

Family is an important part of Peter’s life, and Coker’s close-knit environment mirrors those values. Baseball remains his primary focus, and he hopes to coach one day. However, he also sees a future working alongside his grandfather in the family business. In his free time, Peter enjoys working out, gaming, hunting, and fishing, though he admits he is still looking for the best fishing spots around Hartsville.

Looking back, Peter is grateful for the memories and lessons Limestone gave him, from the team’s playoff run to meeting his girlfriend, Tayler, during his freshman year. Moving forward, he is focused on making the most of his time at Coker. His advice to other students facing unexpected changes is simple: stay positive, lean on your support system, and trust that the next step will lead you where you need to be.

“Keep your head up. Trust that God has a plan. Stay positive and believe you’ll find the right path,” Peter said.

Coker University’s response to the Limestone closure isn’t just procedural, but personal. For students like Peter Adams, it has transformed a moment of uncertainty into the start of a promising new chapter.
