Coker University will host a special book signing event for A Curious Heart: The Life and Letters of Elizabeth Boatwright Coker. This moving literary biography explores the life and legacy of one of South Carolina’s most celebrated authors. The event will take place on Wednesday, November 20, at 6 p.m. in the Stein Gallery on Coker University’s campus.
The biography, written by Elizabeth Boatwright Coker’s daughter, Penelope Coker Hall, and granddaughter, Eliza Wilson Ingle, provides an intimate look into the life of the award-winning author and Hartsville native. Drawing on Elizabeth’s personal letters, journals, and interviews, A Curious Heart delves into the extraordinary journey of a Southern woman who broke barriers and captured the essence of Southern storytelling in her work.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet Penelope Coker Hall and Eliza Wilson Ingle, who will share insights into their writing process and sign copies of their book. Light refreshments will be served.
Elizabeth Boatwright Coker, a Darlington, S.C. native, was a trailblazing woman of her time. She balanced the demands of motherhood, marriage, and a prolific writing career that yielded nine historical novels. Her works earned her a spot on the New York Times bestseller list and induction into the South Carolina Hall of Fame.
Copies of A Curious Heart will be available for purchase at the event. The proceeds from book sales at the event will be donated to the School of Visual and Performing Arts.
