Coker University is making it a little easier for local students to experience campus in person this year.

As part of its upcoming District Days, Coker is inviting area high schools to bring busloads of students to campus for an open house — and the University will help cover transportation costs through its “Fund the Bus” program.

“We know that sometimes the biggest barrier to visiting a college campus is simply getting there,” said Kat Davis, vice president for strategic communications and recruitment at Coker University. “We want students in our region to have the chance to walk our campus, meet our people, and see for themselves what Coker could look like for them. If transportation is standing in the way, we want to help remove that barrier.”

Each District Day will give prospective students an opportunity to explore campus, learn about academic programs, hear about financial aid and scholarships, and connect with current students and members of the Coker community.

While certain dates have been designated for specific school districts, all District Day events are open to any prospective student and their family. Students do not have to attend one of the listed districts to participate. However, the Fund the Bus transportation program will be available to participating schools on their designated dates.

      Upcoming District Days include:

      • Sept. 25: Darlington and Marlboro counties
      • Oct. 30: Florence County
      • Nov. 6: DCSD Teacher Cadet Day
      • Nov. 13: Kershaw, Chesterfield, Lee and Dillon counties
      • Feb. 19: Transfer Visit Day

Schools interested in bringing a group should email admissions@coker.edu. Individual students and families can learn more and register at www.coker.edu/visit.

“At the end of the day, we want more students to know that college — and Coker — may be closer and more accessible than they think,” Davis said.
