HARTSVILLE, SC (October 27, 2021) - Penning an essay for Medium, Coker University Professor Joseph Flaherty recently discussed how colleges can learn from Coker in helping low-income and first-generation students succeed in studying science, technology, engineering, and math.

"As part of this effort to recruit, retain, and graduate low-income students, Coker and its partners have committed to help these students succeed as they pursue degrees in biology. To deliver on our promise to these students, Coker is implementing best practices and taking specific steps to recruit more biology majors, support them during their undergraduate years, and graduate more individuals, particularly those from historically disadvantaged communities, with degrees in STEM," Flaherty wrote.
