    Hartsville, S.C. – February 19, 2018  –  Coker College is hosting the American College Dance Association Southeast Conference March 2-5, 2018, with over 400 college dance students and faculty visiting Hartsville.

    The conference will be a celebration of dance in higher education with a wide variety of master classes, scholarly research presentations, opportunities for student and faculty exchanges in and out of the studio, adjudication and informal concerts, feedback sessions, site specific performances and a Gala Concert.

    All conference concerts are free and open to the public:

    • Friday, March 2, 7:30pm - Watson Theater, Elizabeth Boatwright Coker Performing Arts Center, Coker College - Adjudication Concert

    • Saturday, March 3, 1:45pm - Watson Theater, Elizabeth Boatwright Coker Performing Arts Center, Coker College  - Adjudication Concert

    • Saturday, March 3, 8pm - Center Theater, 212 North Fifth Street, Hartsville - Faculty Concert

    • Sunday, March 4, 2pm - Watson Theater, Elizabeth Boatwright Coker Performing Arts Center, Coker College  - Adjudication Concert

    • Sunday, March 4, 8pm - Watson Theater, Elizabeth Boatwright Coker Performing Arts Center, Coker College  - Adjudication Concert

    • Monday, March 5, 7:30pm - Watson Theater, Elizabeth Boatwright Coker Performing Arts Center, Coker College  - Gala Concert - selected dances by the adjudication panel

    “The ACDA conference is always a wonderful time to reconnect with friends and colleagues while experiencing the wonderful artistry that is dance in higher education,” says Angela Gallo, chair of the dance, music, and theatre department at Coker College and ACDA southeast conference coordinator. “Hosting the conference this year allows us to welcome the students and faculty from around the southeast to our small but mighty dance program. We are excited to showcase Hartsville and all of the unique dining and shopping locations to people from across the region.”

    The American College Dance Association exists to support and affirm dance in higher education through regional conferences, the adjudication process, and national festivals. The educational mission of the Association is to foster creative potential, to honor multiple approaches to scholarly and creative research and activity, to promote excellence in choreography and/or performance, and to give presence and value to diversity in dance. The Association acts as a national membership service organization to strengthen the educational network for students and faculty within the academic dance community.
