Hartsville, S.C. – November 20, 2017 – Coker College welcomed 18 first-year students into its growing honors program for the 2017-2018 academic year.
The 2017-2018 academic year is the sixth year for Coker’s Honors Program, which allows for high-achieving and motivated undergraduates to pursue a vigorous course of study offering experiences based on three pillars––innovative scholarship, cultural interaction, and civic leadership. Students get extensive research experiences in a variety of disciplines through a combination of coursework and co-curricular experiences, as well as study leadership, study abroad, and participate in community service projects.
“I am eager to see what our new Honors students bring to the table. I had the pleasure of traveling with them in Washington, D.C., and found the group to be enthusiastic and ready for a challenge,” says Dr. Jennifer Borgo, associate professor of biology and director of the Honors Program at Coker College.
Honors Program students had to apply to be admitted into the program and each received $1000 scholarships. They must maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher in order to stay in the Honors Program.
