Coker University celebrates the leadership achievements of alumnus Jerod Bishop ’08, who has been named the new Executive Director of Cypress Adventures, a youth development organization based in Hartsville. Bishop assumed his new role on June 2, 2025, marking a significant milestone for both the organization and the local community.
A Hartsville native and Coker University graduate, Bishop exemplifies the values of leadership, service, and community engagement that define the Coker experience. After earning his degree from Coker, he went on to build an impressive career in educational leadership. Most recently, he served as Chief of Staff for Atlanta Public Schools, where he supported strategic initiatives and helped drive transformative outcomes for over 50,000 students across more than 80 schools and programs.
Now returning to his roots, Bishop steps into a new chapter as the leader of Cypress Adventures. This organization has been a cornerstone of youth development in Darlington County for the past decade. His appointment represents a leadership transition from founder-led to founder-inspired, as founding director Aimee Cox-King continues to serve the organization as Director of Youth Programming.
In his first year, Bishop plans to focus on developing a strategic vision for Cypress Adventures, enhancing fundraising, building community partnerships, and strengthening organizational sustainability—all while staying true to the mission of equipping young people with the emotional, social, and physical tools they need to thrive.
Coker University celebrates Bishop’s continued impact and leadership and is proud to see a Coker graduate at the helm of one of the region’s most vital youth organizations. His appointment is a testament to the power of a Coker education and the lifelong influence of servant leadership.
