Using Risk and Failure to Find Success

Most of us would probably not be surprised if a performing artist told us creativity was a core value. While Wesley Atkinson, a 2006 theatre graduate of Coker, would agree, he would also add another quality that might be less evident: taking risks. “At least that's the big thing, especially in theatre. You take risks, fail hard, and fail often, and get up and you celebrate the learning that comes from failure, but you're always taking risks.” That’s one of the things Coker taught him and allowed him to practice. “You know, it wasn't a punishable offense [at Coker] if you put the work into a bold and courageous idea and it missed the mark.”
